Perimenopause & Menopause Counselling
Therapy and coaching for the emotional and identity shifts of perimenopause in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs and online.
Something has been shifting… in your mood, your sleep, your patience, your sense of yourself. It may have been gradual, or it may have arrived with surprising force. Either way, you may be finding it hard to know whether what you’re feeling is hormonal, situational, or something deeper, asking for your attention.
If any of this feels disorienting, you’re not alone. And you don’t have to make sense of it by yourself.
Perimenopause as a developmental transition
Perimenopause can begin up to ten years before menopause itself, quietly reshaping how you think, feel, and respond to the world around you. Alongside physical changes, which can include anxiety, brain fog, fatigue, and shifts in confidence, questions about identity, purpose, relationships and what comes next often rise to the surface, sometimes all at once.
Perimenopause remains one of the least understood transitions in a woman’s life. This phase is not simply a set of symptoms to be managed. It is a reset point (a developmental threshold) that invites a more honest relationship with yourself and a chance to reassess what is no longer working.
When perimenopause begins to reshape how you feel
You may notice changes in how you think, feel, and respond to the world around you. These experiences are far more common than most women are ever told.
Many women describe:
- Increased anxiety or low mood
- Irritability, emotional reactivity, or tearfulness
- Brain fog, exhaustion, or feeling unlike yourself
- A loss of confidence or sense of direction
- Feeling less tolerant of work, relationships, or demands
- Resentment, restlessness
- Grief for earlier versions of yourself or for paths not taken
- A growing need for space, truth, or change
It can be hard to tell what is hormonal, what is emotional, and what is a deeper call for change. If this stage feels confusing or unsettling, it doesn’t mean that there is something “wrong” with you. It often means your system is asking for a different pace and a different set of priorities.
“Menarche, menstruation, motherhood and menopause are like evolutionary tipping points in our life journey.”

About Elise Clement
I am a psychotherapist, life coach, and facilitator supporting women through significant life transitions, including matrescence, perimenopause, and periods of identity change. My work weaves together holistic therapy, positive psychology coaching, and contemplative traditions to help women understand what they are experiencing and move through these transitions with greater clarity, emotional balance, and self-trust.
How support can help during perimenopause
Rather than trying to override what you are feeling, I support you in understanding what this stage of life is asking of you and in responding with clarity and care.
This may include supporting you to:
- Work with anxiety, resentment, anger, and low mood
- Rebuild confidence and emotional steadiness
- Process grief for past versions of yourself or unmet dreams
- Clarify what matters most to you now
- Renegotiate boundaries at work, in relationships, and in family life
- Reconnect with your own needs and desires
- Explore what a meaningful next chapter could look like.
My approach
My work draws on both contemporary psychotherapy and wisdom traditions and is grounded in cyclical wisdom: an understanding that women’s lives unfold in seasons, not straight lines. In that light, perimenopause is not simply a problem to be managed: it is a developmental transition, a checkpoint that invites a more honest relationship with yourself.
Combining holistic therapeutic approaches, mindfulness, somatics, and parts work (Internal Family Systems), my work supports you in listening to that invitation and responding in a way that feels steady, embodied, and true to you.
“I thoroughly enjoyed every session with Elise and would highly recommend her services. I walked in there for life coaching on how to approach some goals in my life and have walked out of every session with great steps/progression and balance in the way to approach what I’m working towards. Not only did Elise support me through navigating finding my path to work on, but she also was a great crossover to my psychological needs as well and what I was going through in life on a daily basis, and working this all together. I will definitely be engaging Elise again for what I call a brain massage to navigate through this thing we call life.”
A place to begin making sense of this transition
If you believe you may be moving through perimenopause and would like support understanding what is changing, you are welcome to book an initial consultation. This first session gives us time to understand what you are navigating, what you are hoping for, and whether working together feels right for you.
Questions women often ask about perimenopause
Is what I’m feeling normal in perimenopause?
Perimenopause can bring emotional changes alongside physical ones, including anxiety, low mood, irritability, brain fog, and a sense of feeling unlike yourself. While every woman’s experience is different, feeling unsettled or emotionally out of sync is very common. Our work helps you understand what’s happening for you personally, rather than dismissing or pushing through it.
How can counselling help with perimenopause anxiety?
Counselling offers a place to slow down and make sense of what you’re feeling, rather than just trying to manage symptoms. We explore what’s happening emotionally and hormonally, and how stress, identity changes, and life pressures may be interacting with your nervous system. Together, we work toward steadiness, clarity, and ways of responding to anxiety that feel supportive rather than overwhelming.
What’s the difference between perimenopause and menopause?
Perimenopause is the transition phase leading up to menopause, when hormone levels begin to fluctuate, and symptoms can start to appear. Menopause is defined as the point at which you’ve gone 12 months without a period. Many women experience emotional and physical changes during perimenopause, sometimes years before menopause itself.
What if I’m not sure whether what I’m experiencing is perimenopause?
That’s very common. Many women don’t realise they are in perimenopause at first, because the symptoms they experience can also be linked to stress or life circumstances.
In our work, we don’t need to label what’s happening straight away. We focus first on how you are feeling and what support you need. If perimenopause seems likely to be part of the picture, I can also help you consider whether additional support from a GP or other holistic practitioners (such as naturopaths or women’s health specialists) might be helpful for assessing and supporting physical symptoms alongside our emotional work.
Do you offer online perimenopause counselling if I’m not in the Eastern Suburbs?
Yes. I offer online sessions for women who are not based in the Eastern Suburbs or who prefer to work from home. This allows you to receive consistent emotional support wherever you are, while still having a dedicated space to focus on yourself and what you are navigating.
I live and work on the unceeded land of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation. I bow to the wisdom of the custodians and their elders, past present and emerging.
